Beyond the Eiffel Tower: Building France’s Tech Undersea Wealth
Last two weeks the financial markets newsrooms had two main themes. Firstly, surprising election announcement for France and secondly, Elon Musk stating that robotics is going to be main value driver of Tesla. In this article, I try to bring these two together. Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” reflects France’s strategic economic influence rooted in mathematical tradition. France is in a unique position to leverage its geographical and intellectual assets, with its twelve time zones allowing it to maintain a constant global market presence. While France’s deep roots in mathematics and quantitative analysis are well known, exemplified by Blaise Pascal’s work in probability theory, the nation is also one of the world’s industrial and cultural leaders. Blessed with the world’s largest Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), France is poised to become a dominant economic force in the coming decades by harnessing the power of AI, robotics, and big data.
France ranks as the world’s 7th largest economy and only 43rd in land area, it holds a surprising distinction: the world’s largest Exclusive Economic Zone. Established by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, EEZs grant coastal nations exclusive rights to explore and manage resources within a designated maritime area. EEZs offer a wealth beyond fish, holding the potential for deep sea resources, medical breakthroughs, abundant clean energy, climate change solutions, and marine conservation leadership In the not-too-distant future, advancements in robotics have the potential to unlock France’s vast underwater resources. Imagine fleets of robots conducting deep-sea mining for rare-earth metals, vital for modern technology – a new strategic resource akin to oil and gas. This, coupled with France’s expertise in submarine technology, could propel it to become a leader in sustainable deep-sea exploration. The potential extends beyond just mining – with applications which are currently beyond imagination in the way resources of sea are pressed into service of humanity using robotics, AI and data analytics.
The Intersection of Big Data, AI, and Space: France’s Path to Growth Forget traffic jams, imagine a world where advanced AI and the power of vast datasets join forces to completely redefine how we live, work, and even move around. Elon Musk recently predicted that by the 2040s, we could see about 1 billion humanoid robots on Earth, assuming our civilization remains stable. And Musk is not just selling sci-fi dreams – Tesla is gearing up to be the robot factory of the future, with millions of the company’s “Optimus” bots potentially replacing the electric car giant’s claim to fame. Are we on the verge of a robotic revolution? France is poised to spearhead the charge into a thrilling future as it controls largest amount of sea resources which are currently unexplored. But the key to unlocking this potential lies not only in cutting-edge technology such as AI and big data analytics, but also in successfully navigating its social challenges. By fostering national unity, unified cultural aspirations with faith in democracy, equality and secularism with a spirit of innovation, France can solidify its position as a leading innovator and propel its economy towards becoming the world’s fastest-growing powerhouse. As Victor Hugo once declared, “No force can restrain the human spirit from striving to grasp the infinite!” France can embrace this spirit and reach for the stars and beyond!
